SALVATORES DEI – ASKITIKI

One of the most important pieces of Kazantzakis work in which the author expresses his metaphysical beliefs. The play was presented at the Michalis Kakogiannis Foundation (2011), at the Athens Concert Hall: Megaron (2012-2013), toured around multiple Greek cities and after 7 years of presence was presented in 2017 at the emblematic Odeon of Herodes Atticus with great success. It should be noted that the play received unprecedented criticism from both viewers and critics. Also, as it is important to note that it was the first attempt to adapt that particular philosophical work into a theatrical form.

ASCETIKI at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus

Kazantzakis work was presented for the first time as a theatrical piece at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus on the 28th of September 2017 at the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Year of Nikos Kazantzakis 2017. A moving piece which shocked with its purity and philosophical depth the 4,400 spectators at the Roman theatre. Stunning were the interpretations of the actors Tsakirogloy, Didaskalou, Nousias and Kitsou. The performance took place under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens, with the support of Kazantzakis Publications and the Michael Kakogiannis Foundation.

“Love responsibility. Say: It is my duty, and mine alone, to save the earth. If it is not saved, then I alone am to blame.”

N. Kazantzakis
