Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s “Notes from Underground“, a work deeply philosophical and revealing of human weaknesses, directed by Panos Angelopoulos.

A forerunner of the themes and ideas that Dostoevsky dealt with in his top novels, “The Basement” is one of his most popular works. Dostoevsky stubbornly dealt with Ego and individual freedom. Without freedom, there can be no man. Conquering freedom, however, is not the easiest thing in the world; it is not just the right reason to achieve the goal, you need to go all the way of suffering, of pain. He invites the viewer as a witness, he wants to deprive him of the right to think differently and the right to exist. Dostoyevsky does not speak to spread his ideas and enlighten those around him. He seeks the light himself.
