Born in Aigio Panos Angelopoulos studied acting and theatrical directing in Athens and cinema in London’s International Film School. On Laterna Magica technic in the Czech Republic to enrich his academic background in theatre and cinema. He is a member of the Hellenic Film Academy and the Directors’ Association.

During the ’90 and until 2000 he created close ties with television and cinema both as a director and as a producer. He directed multiple tv-series and documentaries in collaboration with the Greek national television (ERT) and private TV stations as well. Representing Greece in the field of documentaries and informative productions in general around the world he worked with famous TV stations around Europe like RAI3 «Una Citta Italiana,una ciesa greca», the British Channel 4 (Acropolis) and the European channel TV5.

The documentary “At the edge of the world” gave him the first production price at Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 1996. In 2007 he shot the Greek-Italian movie “A hero in Rome” which took part in several international film festivals. The movie won many distinctions such as:
Audience Award/Cyprus International Film Festival, European Union Film Festival Chicago (2008), San Luis International Film Festival (2007), Cairo International Film Festival (Festival of Festivals) (2007), Greek Film Festival Australia (2007) and more.

Since 2011 he has been active in the theatrical field as well, with his expertise being the adaptation of philosophical pieces starting by the Ascetics one of Kazantzakis greatest pieces where he expresses his supernatural beliefs. The play was presented at the Michalis Kakogiannis Foundation (2011), at the Athens Concert Hall: Megaron (2012-2013), toured around multiple Greek cities and after 7 years of presence was presented in 2017 at the emblematic Odeon of Herodes Atticus with great success. It should be noted that the play received unprecedented criticism from both viewers and critics. Also, as it is important to note that it was the first attempt to adapt that particular philosophical work into a theatrical form.

In 2013 and for the next 3 years he gets inspired by Dostoyevsky’s book “Notes from Underground’’One of the most difficult theatrical adaptations which were presented at the Athens Concert Hall: Megaron. Three years later he directs another of Dostoyevsky’s books. This time is the book “The dream of a ridiculous man”.

In 2018 the Greek director works on “Gemma” written by the contemporary greek philosopher Dimitris Liantinis. The play was presented at the Britannia Theatre in Athens, at the Aristotelian Theatre in Thessaloniki and 2019 at the Parnassos Literary Society.

In the summer of 2018, Panos Angelopoulos directs seven women, seven imposing women characters whose names are the actual tragedies written from Euripides Alcestis, Andromache, Medea,Iphigenia, Helen, Hecuba, and Electra. The play titled “Loves and lamentations of women” presented in Odeon of Herodes Atticus was a great success.

The play was a composition of part of monologues from Euripides’ central heroines to understand the female personality in perpetuity.
Currently, he has an ongoing collaboration with Cosmote History channel where he directs documentaries on historical events such as “People of our Time”, “Glorious Navy Ships”, “The book and the libraries” and “Pontos May”.
